This film by Sheldon Wolfchild focuses on the Doctrine of Christian Discovery, the religious justification early colonial settlers used to claim lands from indigenous peoples. Based on papal bulls (edicts), the doctrine allowed settlers to claim dominion over lands that were not already occupied by Christians. It saw Native peoples as less than human and created the justification for domination and genocide. The film will be followed by a discussion about Christianity, colonialism, and the ongoing ramifications of this doctrine today.
