Baptism marks our entry into God’s family. Discipleship is following Jesus into ministry, suffering, rejection and death; thus the path to adulthood. Control is the attempt to overpower our desires. Discipline is the conversion of desire from unhelpful to constructive through a living relationship with Jesus. Our innate need for security drives our impulse to being established in this world – education, work, status, housing, mobility, retirement – but God alone can truly restore, support, strengthen and establish us.
