Statement from CAN Session
Dear CAN community members and supporters:
Some may be aware that stories of misconduct and illegalities have been directed against our church. While the information we can presently share is limited due to discussions that are happening in real time with the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area, we want to share with complete confidence that our church is not engaged in unethical or unlawful behavior.
CAN is an intentionally multicultural congregation that cultivates kinship out of diversity. We seek to overcome the effects of individualism, capitalism, racism and other supremacist ideology. Our church has long supported LGBTQ+ rights and the flourishing of LGBTQ+ people in every sphere of life, including in the church. Our current membership and leadership are living witness to these values. Our commitment to multiculturalism, antiracism and to a postcolonial way of life is as resolute as ever.
We recognize that some people have experienced hurt. We wish this were not so, and we are grieved for any who are in pain. We welcome those who want to engage in good faith dialogue to come directly to us with any questions or concerns. Our Lord Jesus in Matthew 18:15-20 instructs his disciples to point out alleged fault directly. Any grievance that was shared with any of CAN’s Session members was immediately and thoroughly reviewed. Regrettably, most of the grievances that have been aired publicly have not been brought directly to our Session, thereby removing the opportunity to address concerns and misunderstandings in a transparent, full, and timely way. Our church is committed to being a safe and welcoming space for all who seek to join our ministry. If complaints are made, we will listen, and we will take corrective action and make amends when appropriate.
We look forward to the day when everything will be revealed. We thank God that our church continues to be filled with peace, love, and goodwill throughout our fellowship. We extend the hand of peace and love to all.
